Ludhiana, September 10 The Environmental and Welfare Association of New Janta Nagar and Shimlapuri have complained to the MC authorities about the alleged encroachments, unavailability of footpaths and potholes on Gill Road. They asked the civic body authorities to take necessary measures to resolve these issues at the earliest. Sher Singh, president of the association, said, “The civic body is not paying attention towards the encroachments on Gill Road. Earlier, 70-80 kiosks on encroached land were removed. But, now the vacated space is being used for parking taxis and autos. By removing the encroachments, the MC must construct a footpath for pedestrians and a green belt.” “Traffic snarls are common here. The street vendors, who station their carts on the road portion, should be allotted specific space as per the directions of the Supreme Court. Besides, the civic body failed to pay attention to ensure proper sweeping of Gill Road in routine. It should make arrangement to ensure cleanliness of the streets at weekends too,” he said. The association complained that there was a big plot opposite ITI which has been turned into a garbage dumping ground, creating nuisance for area residents and passers-by. Besides, there is no check on construction material being dumped on the streets. The civic body should take required measures to resolve these issues, a resident said. In the complaint, the residents have also demanded from the civic body to repair the potholed Gill Road as the commuters are forced to suffer every day. However, the repair work has been started at Gill Road as per information.
