Damaged at several places, full of potholes | Two-wheeler riders the most affected Harshraj Singh Ludhiana, September 14 A badly broken road in Sector 32-A proved fatal for Satish (25), who received stitches on his lips five months ago when he met with an accident here. Though it is one of the posh areas of the city, the Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA), for more than last one year, has failed to get the roads repaired, ignoring the safety of commuters. Another resident of the same area Bunty suffered a neck injury when his two-wheeler slipped on a potholed road of the area last week. Now, both Satish and Bunty have sought from the government and GLADA to get the roads repaired to avert more accidents. Area residents said many others, including schoolchildren and women, have suffered injuries due to the poor condition of the Jamalpur Police Station Road and internal streets of Sector 32-A, which fall under Ward numbers 16 and 18 on Chandigarh Road. “It is a posh area of the city but is in a state of neglect. The roads in the area are worse than many other colonies of the city. Some students have received head injuries and we took them to hospital. We have been suffering for more than past one year but no councillor or MLA has paid any attention to it. No road or street of the area is pothole free. The councillors of both wards and MLA concerned should fulfil their responsibilities to get the roads reconstructed,” said Jatinder Verma of Sector 32-A. Surinder Singh Bajaj, another resident, said: “Accidents are very common on the main police station road and internal streets in Sector 32-A. We have raised our voice many times but nothing has been done to get the roads repaired for a long time. We appeal to the authorities concerned to provide better roads at the earliest. Whenever any pothole appears, it should be timely repaired.” Vaneet Bhatia, Ward Number 18 councillor, claimed that the roads will be constructed in both wards soon. He said a project to install a new sewer line is underway, which will resolve the problem of overflowing sewers on Chandigarh Road. The waste water from dyeing units will be diverted through the new sewer line, he said. MLA Sanjay Talwar said: “The tenders for the construction of roads in the area will be opened on September 20. Electricity poles are also to be shifted for widening roads. A road where the sewer pipes are to be installed will be constructed after the completion of sewer-related work.” GLADA Executive Engineer Jasjot Singh said they were going to make concrete roads in the area and the work would be started soon.
