Ludhiana, September 16BJP councillor Manju Aggarwal urged Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu to take up the issue of fixing rates for submersible pumps as the existing system left a big margin for discretion, which in turn led to corruption. In a letter, the councillor said bills for submersible pumps to residential houses were sent at the rate of Rs400, whereas the stipulated charges were Rs200 per month. Similarly, bills to commercial and industrial units were being raised at Rs800 against the stipulated rate of Rs200 to Rs300 per month. Aggarwal pleaded that rates be fixed at Rs200 per month and the industrial units be charged on the basis of their usage and area to put an end to the discretion allowed to the employees. The Mayor has marked the letter to the O&M wing for further action.— OC
