COLLEGE NOTESLudhiana: Rotract Club of Khalsa College For Women, Civil lines, organised an awareness campaign, Days of Pride, to create awareness among adolescent school girls about taboos, myths, and do’s and don’ts related to menstruation. Meanwhile, the members of Eco club took out an awareness drive under Swachhta Pakhwada on plastic use and diseases such as malaria and dengue in the slum area of Prem Nagar. Rajesh Kumar Singh, director, International College of Financial Planning, New Delhi, was the resource person. A fresher’s party was organised at DD Jain College of Education for newly admitted students of BEd. Around 250 students from BA, BCom, BCA, BVoc, BBA, MCom, MSc (IT), PGDCA and other postgraduate courses participated in this drive.

Students distributed sanitary napkins to highlight the importance of hygiene to be observed during those five days. The volunteers also interacted with young girls and motivated them through collages and posters to not consider those five days as a punishment but as celebration of womanhood. Principal Mukti Gill applauded the team work of the club. Meanwhile, the members of Eco club took out an awareness drive under Swachhta Pakhwada on plastic use and diseases such as malaria and dengue in the slum area of Prem Nagar. They discussed with them about breeding of mosquitoes in standing water during rainy season. hey suggested them to make their kids wear full sleeves clothes and apply mosquito repellant creams so that they can be protected from these deadly diseases. Workshop on financial planning The department of commerce of Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology (GNIMT) organised a workshop for BCom students on “Careers in financial planning”. Rajesh Kumar Singh, director, International College of Financial Planning, New Delhi, was the resource person. He is an associate CA from the United Kingdom. He created awareness among commerce students to adopt financial planning and financial analysis as a lucrative career option in the field of finance and them to opt for certified financial planner (CFP) and chartered financial analyst (CFA) as career options. He impressed on the students that with the expansion of the Indian middle class and rise in their disposable income, the demand for financial planners was going to increase manifold in the digital India. National Nutrition Week observed The department of home science of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, observed National Nutrition Week by organising an inter-class cooking competition. Around 30 students participated in the competition and prepared delicious dishes. Bhavika from BA-II stood first, followed by Sakshi from BA-III and Yashika from BSc-II. Meanwhile, the zoological society organised an extension lecture on “Effect of pesticides on mammalian physiology” for the students of BSc (Medical) by Nisha Vashishat, Assistant Professor at department of zoology, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. She discussed how pesticides were causing damage to vital organs of mammalian body and stressed limited usage of harmful chemical in the agricultural practices. A fresher’s party was organised at DD Jain College of Education for newly admitted students of BEd. Various dance and singing performances, one-minute games and ramp walk were held to breal the ice between students and teachers. Gaytri Chopra was declared Ms Fresher, Navpreet Kaur was the first runner-up and Richa became second runner-up. Quiz Runner-up trophy for GNGC Guru Nanak Girls College, Model Town, clinched the first runner-up trophy in Gyanmanthan-2019, an inter-state annual quiz competition hosted by University Business School, Ludhiana. The quiz was conducted in several phases. A written test was followed by quarter finals and semi-finals round. Harman Kaur and Jasleen Kaur from MA (Political Science), and Diksha Sadana from MSc (Biotech) bagged second position. They were awarded with trophies, a cash prize of Rs 4,500 and a power bank. 250 take part in campus placement The career counseling and placement cell of Devki Devi Jain Memorial College for Women, in collaboration with the Chambers of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings (CICU), organised a campus placement drive. A workshop on interview skills and writing resume was also organised a day before to enhance the chances of their selection in this drive. Many reputed companies and industrial houses such as New Swan Group of Industries, Farm Parts (Uni Parts Group), Citizen Group of Industries, Weltech Group of Industries, Taaran Industries, Ansh Infotech, V-Mad, Tript Organics, Wo Women Forum, Chabra Industries, Vocations Pro and JSR Technology visited the campus. Around 250 students from BA, BCom, BCA, BVoc, BBA, MCom, MSc (IT), PGDCA and other postgraduate courses participated in this drive. As many as 55 students secured jobs. Rajni Sofat, coordinator of commerce courses, encouraged students to add professional value to their profile to be eligible to apply in big corporates. TNS
