He had left a body at a mortuary on assurance that he would take it in morning Our Correspondent Ahmedgarh, September 17 Three weeks after his murder, the body of a migrant labourer is lying at a mortuary being run by a social welfare organisation. One of his sons is cooling heels in judicial custody while other members of the family who had received the body from the police after the postmortem are absconding after keeping the body at the mortuary on the pretext of preserving for a night. The deceased, identified as Tulsi Ram (65) of Wakarpur (UP), was allegedly killed by members of his family in the last week of August and the Sadar police had handed over the body (after getting postmortem conducted) to a close relative Jasbir Mairy on August 26. After receiving the body, the relatives accompanied by Jasbir hired an ambulance (PB 13 AU 1268) for shifting the same to Wakarpur. Tarsem Garg and Dr Sunit Hind, patron and president of the social welfare organisation, respectively, alleged that the driver of the ambulance had tried to get rid of the body as he feared that relatives of the deceased would not be paying him fare after reaching at the destination. They (Garg and Hind) have now sought action against the driver and the owner of the ambulance and the intervention of the administration in disposal of the body. “We request you to investigate the matter and initiate action against the owner and the ambulance driver,” reads the communication written by Garg and Hind to the authorities in the police and civil administration. Officials at the office of the Ahmedgarh SDM said communication received from Garg and Hind had been forwarded to the Ahmedgarh Deputy Superintendent of Police for necessary action.
