Ludhiana may become first city in the state to do so Nikhil Bhardwaj Ludhiana, September 17 If everything goes as per plan, Ludhiana may soon become the first city in the state where inquiry report will be sent on WhatsApp to the complainant. Even the SMS of update of each stage of the complaint will be sent on the mobile number of the complainant. Ludhiana Police Commissioner Rakesh Agrawal has taken the initiative so that people may not have to make rounds of police offices to get status report of their complaint. Talking to The Tribune, Agrawal said, “I have observed that people, after filing complaints, have to go from one office to another to know the status of their complaint. This thing not only bothers the complainant, but it also wastes the time of police officers, who have to attend such people.” The Police Commissioner added, “I am in touch with technical experts to create some software, which will maintain the entire record of complaints marked by me and other officers. The software will also maintain record, such as name of the inquiry officer and status of the complaint at each stage. All updates will be sent to the complainant time to time. Once the inquiry is completed, whether FIR is recommended or inquiry is simply filed without FIR, the complainant will get the report on his/her WhatsApp number.” The report can also be e-mailed to the complainant, but these days most of the people use WhatsApp due to which this source will be given priority, said Agrawal. Sources said no other police district or commissionerate has this facility. About the expected time of implementation of this initiative, Agrawal said if everything went as per the plan, the initiative would take maximum two weeks for preparing the software and fulfilling other formalities, after which the project would be implemented.
