Timely action averts tragedy as fire breaks out at bank

Our CorrespondentAhmedgarh, September 19A major tragedy was averted after a fire broke out at a local branch of the Punjab and Sindh Bank on Wednesday night. Timely action by residents of Bank Street area and the administration averted the fire. The rescue operation was supervised by Ahmedgarh SDM Vikramjeet Singh Panthey and city SHO Amandeep Kaur. Residents of the area and bank staff, instead of waiting for fire engines to arrive, started dousing fire with water supply from various houses. Appreciating the coordinated efforts made by the residents and the administration in controlling the fire, Ahmedgarh SDM Vikramjeet Singh Panthey said banks officials had been asked to prepare a report on probable reason behind the fire.

Our Correspondent Ahmedgarh, September 19 A major tragedy was averted after a fire broke out at a local branch of the Punjab and Sindh Bank on Wednesday night. Timely action by residents of Bank Street area and the administration averted the fire. Valuables, including computers, air conditioners, were burnt, before the fire was doused completely. The exact loss incurred in the fire is yet to be ascertained. Had the action not taken in time, loss could have been much more as the branch is situated in a thickly populated residential area of the town. The rescue operation was supervised by Ahmedgarh SDM Vikramjeet Singh Panthey and city SHO Amandeep Kaur. The fire was first noticed at around 9 pm by a social activist, Vijay Kumar Kakria, who further informed the administration and Branch Manager Rakesh Kumar Rawat. Residents of the area and bank staff, instead of waiting for fire engines to arrive, started dousing fire with water supply from various houses. Fire Brigade from Shryans Industries Limited and Malerkotla reached the spot and firemen, led by Security Officer Anish Ghaie, put off the fire after tireless work of two hours. Though premises of the branch remained filled with smoke till morning, the rescuers declared the fire controlled before 12 am. Appreciating the coordinated efforts made by the residents and the administration in controlling the fire, Ahmedgarh SDM Vikramjeet Singh Panthey said banks officials had been asked to prepare a report on probable reason behind the fire. “As the issue is concerned with safety and security of life and property of residents too, we have asked the bank officials to probe the sequence of events leading to the fire,” said Panthey maintaining that an advisory would be issued to the authorities at other similar organisations for taking proactive measures to check such incidents.
