Youths sensitised on importance of safe driving

The programme was aimed at sensitising young minds regarding the importance of safe driving and making them aware of the hazards of irresponsible driving. In his opening address, Dr SS Kukal, Dean, College of Agriculture, PAU, asked students to respect other people on the roads. Dr Rajinder Chawla, chairman, Asha Chinh Welfare Society, highlighted the devastating consequences that the victims and their families had to face after a road accident. More than 1,000 students and faculty members attended the programme which was followed by an intra-college quiz competition on road safety. Trophies and certificates were awarded to the winners by an official guest of PAU, Dr John Clohessy, visiting lecturer from the UK.

Our Correspondent Ludhiana, September 19 A quiz competition as a part of the crusade against road accidents – ‘ARROW’ 2018-19, organised jointly by the Asha Chinh Welfare Society and the Rotary Club of Ludhiana Greater, was conducted at Dr Manmohan Singh Auditorium in PAU here on Wednesday. The programme was aimed at sensitising young minds regarding the importance of safe driving and making them aware of the hazards of irresponsible driving. In his opening address, Dr SS Kukal, Dean, College of Agriculture, PAU, asked students to respect other people on the roads. Dr Rajinder Chawla, chairman, Asha Chinh Welfare Society, highlighted the devastating consequences that the victims and their families had to face after a road accident. The power-point presentation on the theme ‘Life – After an Accident is Never the Same’ was heart-touching and was appreciated by the faculty and students alike. Dr Chawla brought shocking facts to the fore, like more than 400 people die in road accidents across the country which was equivalent to one plane crash every day. The figure of more than 1.5 lakh casualties per year is greater than persons killed in a war, terrorist activity or an epidemic outbreak. More than 1,000 students and faculty members attended the programme which was followed by an intra-college quiz competition on road safety. Out of four teams, the winner was the team from BTech Biotechnology (Ankush, Dhriti, Parminder Kaur) while two runner-up teams were from BTech Food Technology (Bimal, Navkirat, Muskaan) and BSc Agriculture - 4 year programme (Gopal, Prabhjot, Vikramjit). Trophies and certificates were awarded to the winners by an official guest of PAU, Dr John Clohessy, visiting lecturer from the UK.
