GADVASU, Canadian varsity sign MoU to strengthen research

Tribune News ServiceLudhiana, October 19An international three-day workshop on “Elements of research: Defining, designing and structuring a research problem” was inaugurated by JPS Gill, director of research, College of Veterinary Science, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), in collaboration with University of Saskatchewan, Canada. The workshop, attended by more than 60 postgraduate students from various departments of GADVASU, will conclude at School of Public Health and Zoonoses, GADVASU. Speakers from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada; University of Sydney, Australia; and US Department of Agriculture (USDA), will deliver lectures during the workshops on fundamentals of research, designing research studies and how to report research findings. RS Aulakh, director, School of Public Health, GADVASU, said the vet varsity and the University of Saskatchewan has signed an MoU to promote, strengthen and expand mutual contacts and collaborative research activities between the universities. AS Nanda, Vice-Chancellor, GADVASU, congratulated the School of Public Health and Zoonoses for this endeavour and hoped that the participants would apply the skills in their research work learnt during the workshop.

On the first day, Emily Jenkins talked about qualities of a successful postgraduate student. Peter Thompson from the USDA discussed about the approaches for effective reading of research articles. There will also be a hands-on practice on study design, sample size estimation and quantitative and qualitative analysis of research images held for participants. RS Aulakh, director, School of Public Health, GADVASU, said the vet varsity and the University of Saskatchewan has signed an MoU to promote, strengthen and expand mutual contacts and collaborative research activities between the universities. Organising workshops and summer/winter schools was an integral part of these collaborative activities, he added. AS Nanda, Vice-Chancellor, GADVASU, congratulated the School of Public Health and Zoonoses for this endeavour and hoped that the participants would apply the skills in their research work learnt during the workshop.
