Teacher crushed under truck

BRIEFLYLudhiana: A 61-year-old woman was crushed to death by a rashly driven truck at the Dugri traffic lights on Friday. Model Town SHO Pawan Kumar said the woman was a teacher at Harkrishan Public School, Janta Nagar. A truck ran over the teacher and she died on the spot. The truck driver fled the spot leaving the truck behind. Gill said he would practice hard to win a gold medal at the national level as well.

BRIEFLY Ludhiana: A 61-year-old woman was crushed to death by a rashly driven truck at the Dugri traffic lights on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Ravinderjit Kaur, a resident of Phase II, Urban Estate, Dugri. Model Town SHO Pawan Kumar said the woman was a teacher at Harkrishan Public School, Janta Nagar. She was waiting for an auto-rickshaw to reach the school and her son was standing by her. A truck ran over the teacher and she died on the spot. The truck driver fled the spot leaving the truck behind. A case under 304 A of the IPC has been registered against the truck driver. Man held for illegal mining Ludhiana: The Koom Kalan police have arrested a man for illegal mining and impounded three tractor-trailers laden with illegally mined sand. The suspect has been identified as Surinder Singh of Cheema village. His accomplices who managed to escape are Gullu of Baliawal, Cheeni of Katana Sahib. Surinder was arrested at Hadiwal village following a tip-off. TNS Foreigner held for stalking Ludhiana: The Jamalpur police have booked an Afghan national on the charge of stalking, sexual harassment and blackmailing a minor girl. A resident told the police that Sunny, who claimed to be an Afghan national, sent objectionable photographs of her daughter on her mobile phone and also forced her to indulge in an adult chat with him online. The police have registered a case under the IPC, POCSO Act and the IT Act. TNS Samrala man wins gold Samrala: Rupinder Singh Gill, a sportsman from Samrala, has done the town proud after he won a gold medal in the 400-metre race in the Punjab State Master Games and was selected to participate in the national games that will be held in February in Gujarat. Gill had participated in the race last year also and won a silver medal. But this year, he won a gold medal. Secretary of Punjab State Master Games Balraj Singh said this meet was held at Jalandhar on November 9 and 10 and Gill came first in the 400-metre race in the above 40-year category and has been selected for the national games. Last year also, Rupinder participated in other games and won three gold medals. Gill said he would practice hard to win a gold medal at the national level as well. — OC
