Sahnewal, November 18 Residents of the area have been suffering ever since the six-laning project of the National Highway Number-1 has materialised. In an attempt to make the National Highway more accessible, the underpasses have been filled with potholes and ditches, with none bothered to rectify them despite repeated reminders. “There is no one to complian to who can make the authorities realise the day-to-day agony we have to bear while being stranded in traffic owing to potholes. Countless number of people have suffered vehicle breakage at those points,” complained a commuter. Despite repeated reminders by commuters to the private contractor deployed to keep the six lanes and lanes along national highway accessible, the latter has failed to act. The company gives two hoots to any request, plea and reminder made by residents. “How shameful it is on the part of the private contractor to make commuters suffer to the extent that they dread the idea of crossing an underpass and look for a new road,” said another commuter. —OC
