Doctor stresses on regular oral cancer screening

Tribune News ServiceLudhiana, November 18City-based Maxillofacial Oncologic and Reconstructive Surgeon Dr Ashutosh Vatsyayan, a visiting consultant at Fortis Hospital, Ludhiana, attended the 7th Annual Head and Neck Forum held at Jalandhar from November 15 to 17. The event was organised by the Multidisciplinary Cancer Symposium at Patel Hospital, Jalandhar, and Dr Ashutosh was invited as a speaker to present his views on “Pre-treatment morbidity mitigation”. With the increasing incidence of head and neck cancer in this region, Dr Vatsyayan highlighted the role of regular oral cancer screening and discussed the measures needed to be taken before the treatment for cancer therapy is initiated. He also emphasised on increasing and maximising the role of family physicians and dentists in recognising the early symptoms of disease, thus, helping the patient to have the needful surgical intervention at the earliest. This forum updates region’s oncologists regarding new progresses made in the field of head and neck surgical oncology and it was attended by the surgeons of the related branch from all over the country.
