Sangrur, Tarn Taran girls script victories

Sangrur girls defeated Sports Wing, Ghudda (Bathinda) 5-2, while Tarn Taran eves proved too good for their opponents from Barnala, whom they trounced 8-0. Principal Amrik Singh, Gagandeep Singh (Rampur), Mandeep Singh (Khanna), Paramjeet Kaur and Col Surinder Singh were among others present on the occasion. Dr Vishavjeet Singh Hans, Estate Officer and Assistant Professor, PAU, Ajay Pal Singh Roomi, former national hockey player and PAU alumni, were the chief guests of the day. The tournament committee with Gurwinder Singh Kila Raipur and Manpreet Singh, lecturer at Government Senior Secondary School, Mundian Kalan, as coordinators is conducting the matches. Synthetic track’s condition poor, say players Players were seen skidding frequently during the matches played on Monday. Some of the girls complained of poor condition of the synthetic track at the stadium. “The track has been affected by fungus and is not fit to play as it can cause injury to players. The tournament should be shifted to some other venue,” they said. However, the organisers were of the view that there was nothing wrong with the track. They opined that players, who wore ordinary sports shoes, could not make a grip on this track and lost balance, resulting in a fall.
