Anil Datt Ludhiana, November 21 Jarnail Singh Garcha has been following a strict training schedule to prepare for the World Masters Athletics Meet to be held in July next year at Toronto in Canada. Jarnail Singh, a resident of Satjot Nagar in Ludhiana city, started taking part in sports competitions while studying at Government Primary School, Dhandari Khurd, and participated in various kabaddi and track events, wherein he won several medals. He won gold medal in the national kabaddi meet. He had retired as junior engineer from the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (MC). Before joining the MC, Jarnail Singh served in the Indian Army and took part in various athletics championships. Jarnail proved his mettle by securing positions in all competitions he competed. Jarnail Singh emerged winner in the 5-km and 10-km marathon races in the above 60 years category held at Ludhiana and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, respectively. Recently, Jarnail Singh participated in the 40th Masters Athletics Championship held at Sangrur wherein he clinched silver medals in the grueling 10,000-m race and 400-m race, besides bronze medal in the 100-m sprint. Jarnail Singh has been preparing for the National Masters Athletics Championship slated to be held at Panchkula in February 2020, after which he will take part in the World Masters Athletics Meet to be conducted in July at Toronto. “I train very hard for the world meet and hope to win gold medal for the country. This will set an example for youngsters back home and encourage them to take active part in games to lead a healthy life,” Jarnail Singh exuded confidence.
