These FIRs had been registered till last night as all SHOs were directed by the Police Commissioner to prevent plying of such bike-carts, as these can cause accidents. A day before yesterday, the police had arrested three persons for the same violation. The Police Commissioner said the modified carts were causing accidents. The police still ask people to avoid modifying bikes or else we will take legal action and impound the vehicles.

A day before yesterday, the police had arrested three persons for the same violation. The police have all these bike-carts. However, the owners were later released on bail. A few persons, who had converted their rickshaws into motor-rickshaws, also faced action. The Police Commissioner said the modified carts were causing accidents. These could not ply on roads as these were illegal. The police had initially issued orders that these modified bikes, scooters or other two-wheelers could not ply on roads under the Motor Vehicle Act and police would start impounding them. The drive will continue. “Yesterday, all police stations launched a citywide drive. Immediate FIRs were lodged by the police stations concerned against the bike-cart owners. We have permanently impounded 98 such rehras. The police still ask people to avoid modifying bikes or else we will take legal action and impound the vehicles. We don’t want these rehras to cause road accidents,” said Agrawal.
