Severe labour shortage puts dairy farmers in quandary

Reason: A large number of migrants have extended their leaves on the pretext of social and family events. Pardeep Sethi, an office-bearer of the Cattle Feed Manufacturers Association, said almost all the units registered with the association has been suffering from severe labour crunch. “Workers have sought leave on the pretext of social and family events. “Contrary to our belief that migrants will return after harvesting of paddy, they have got their leaves extended,” said Sharma.

Reason: A large number of migrants have extended their leaves on the pretext of social and family events. Even migrant labourers want to register for social welfare schemes at their respective home towns. Pardeep Sethi, an office-bearer of the Cattle Feed Manufacturers Association, said almost all the units registered with the association has been suffering from severe labour crunch. “Workers have sought leave on the pretext of social and family events. Majority of them are occupied in sowing wheat in their native states,” said Sethi. Dr Ravinder Sharma, adairy famrer having his unit on Chhanna-Jandali Road said most of the labourers employed in his unit had proceeded on the leave before commencement of paddy harvesting. “Contrary to our belief that migrants will return after harvesting of paddy, they have got their leaves extended,” said Sharma.
