Ludhiana, December 5 Continuing action against ‘jugaru’ (modified two-wheelers with cart fitted behind), the police impounded 16 more such vehicles yesterday. The police have impounded more than 150 such motorcycles and scooters in the past three days. These vehicles have been permanently impounded. Their owners, against whom FIRs have also been registered, will not be able to get the vehicles released. The Sahnewal police have impounded four vehicles, Division No. 6 one, Division No. 7 three, Focal Point police two, Selem Tabri police two and the Jamalpur police four. Police Commissioner Rakesh Agrawal said the drive would continue as the police couldn’t allow these vehicles to ply on the city roads. These vehicles not only cause road accidents but also create traffic bottlenecks, he added. The CP said apart from drivers, the police will also arrest workshop owners and mechanics who make these modified vehicles. Since the police keep posting updates on action against these vehicles on its Facebook page, people in large numbers are commenting on the issue. While a majority of them have lauded the police action, many others accused the police of depriving poor people of livelihood.
