Vet varsity apprises farmers of breeding tract of Sahiwal cattle

Tribune News ServiceLudhiana, December 5Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) organised ‘Sahiwal Day’ at Veterinary Polytechnic and Regional Research and Training Centre (VP&RRTC), Kaljharani, Bathinda. He said the event was organised for the promotion of Sahiwal cattle and its breeding tract in the state. Simarjeet Kaur, principal investigator, All-India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Sahiwal cattle, discussed genetic improvement in the breed. Rajesh Kasrija delivered a lecture on ‘reproductive management of Sahiwal cattle’. Khushpreet Singh talked about various training programmes and facilities available in the university.

Ludhiana, December 5 Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) organised ‘Sahiwal Day’ at Veterinary Polytechnic and Regional Research and Training Centre (VP&RRTC), Kaljharani, Bathinda. Farmers from across the state and adjoining areas participated. Harish Verma, director, Extension Education, GADVASU, was the chief guest on the occasion. He said the event was organised for the promotion of Sahiwal cattle and its breeding tract in the state. Sittal Dev Jindal, principal-cum-joint director, Veterinary Polytechnic and Regional Research and Training Centre, Kaljharani, informed that GADVASU was introducing a two-year diploma course in veterinary science and animal health technology at Kaljharani, where a herd of 250 Sahiwal cattle, with peak yield of 16 kg per day were being reared. Training facilities are also provided to dairy and goat farmers at the centre. Experts from the department of veterinary extension, College of Dairy Science, GADVASU, and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Barnala, participated in the event and put up an exhibition of various goat products. Simarjeet Kaur, principal investigator, All-India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Sahiwal cattle, discussed genetic improvement in the breed. Rajesh Kasrija delivered a lecture on ‘reproductive management of Sahiwal cattle’. Khushpreet Singh talked about various training programmes and facilities available in the university. An award function was also conducted wherein merit certificates and trophies were presented to students of Veterinary Polytechnic College, Kaljharani, for their excellence in the fields of academics and co-curricular activities. The faculty of GADVASU and KVK urged farmers to attend more such sessions to improve thier income prospects and gain profits.
