A lecture by the department of physical education was organised for students of Class IX and XII to familiarize them with the ill-effects of drugs on youth. Principal Karanjit Singh said the cleaning drive started on December 1 and will continue till December 15. World Soil Day observedBVM, Kitchlu Nagar, observed World Soil Day to aware students about the need for soil conservation. Principal Neelam Mittar urged students to be responsible, protect soil to protect life and prioritise sustainable management of soil.

A lecture by the department of physical education was organised for students of Class IX and XII to familiarize them with the ill-effects of drugs on youth. They urged students to raise their voice to create awareness among people regarding the unscrupulous effects of drugs. Principal Jyoti Sachdev Pujara said it was important to educate youth about the dangers of drugs and alcohol abuse, and provide them with emotional support so that they did not develop the need to turn to substance use for comfort. News-reading competition To enhancing students’ knowledge about the world, a news-reading competition was conducted at Ryan International School, Jamalpur, for students of Classes IV and V. students were judged on the parameters of pronunciation, fluency and clarity in speech. The NCC cadets of Malwa Khalsa Senior Secondary School, Model Gram, participated in a swachhta pakhwada rally. Principal Karanjit Singh said the cleaning drive started on December 1 and will continue till December 15. ANO Parambir said the statue of Mahavir Chakra receipient Major Bhupinder Singh, located near Bharat Nagar Chowk, was also cleaned by cadets during the drive. Seminar on soil conservation BVM, Udham Singh Nagar, observed World Soil Day to commemorate the importance of soil as a critical component of the natural system and a vital contributor of human well-being. The science teacher highlighted the problems of deforestation, bad agricultural practices and pollution. She also laid emphasis on the need to adopt 3R’s — reduce, reuse and recycle. Dilpreet Kaur, Class VIII student, recited poem ‘Mitti Ki Pukar’. Workshop on stress management A workshop on stress management was held at Adarsh Public School. Narendera Singh and Shweta were the keynote speakers of the workshop. They informed students of various exercises to distress themselves. Green Land shines at PPT contest Students of Green Land Convent School, Dugri, brought laurels to the school by winning first prize at the Ludhiana Sahodaya Schools Complex science PowerPoint competition. Piyush and Saibhav, students of Class X, grabbed first prize while Jhanvi and Ujjawal, students of Class XI and XII, respectively; and Piyush and Saibhav, students of Class X, bagged the overall trophy. Shabad Rudhra, president, chain of Green Land schools, motivated students to stay focused to fulfil their dreams. Principal Mona Thakur also congratulated the winners. Poem recitation competition Green Land Convent School, Chandigarh Road, organised a poem composition and recitation competition for Classes VI to IX on various topics such as nature, childhood and mother. The competition provided an opportunity to children to come forward, compose poems and recite them on the stage. Students were adjudged on the parameters of content, voice modulation, rhythm, confidence and presentation. DAV shines at PAU flower show The volunteers of Eco Club of DAV, Pakhowal Road, brought laurels to the school by clinching the title ‘Best King of the Show’ at the two-day chrysanthemum show at Punjab Agricultural University. Participants were lauded for bagging first and second position in various categories. Puja Singh, coordinator, Eco Club, said the competition was a wonderful attempt to encourage children to fall in love with nature. Principal Satwant Kaur Bhullar congratulated the winners and acknowledged the department of floriculture and landscaping, PAU, for giving a floral platform to develop awareness among youth regarding nature conservation. TNS Swachhta pakhwada rally Ludhiana: The NCC department of SDP College for Women took out a swachhta pakhwada rally. The cadets took part in a cleanliness drive on the campus and nearby areas. Vocational course in cosmetology Principal Naginder Kaur of Malwa Central College of Education for Women, Civil Lines, inaugurated a two-month vocational course in cosmetology and skin care, sponsored by the Department of Life Long Learning and Extension, Panjab University, Chandigarh. Instructor Rachna Khurana explained the activities to be undertaken during the course. TNS
