The Aided Colleges Contractual Teachers Front seemed to have heaved a sigh of relief as far as the regularisation of their services by the govesrnment is concerned. Assistant Professors, appointed under the New Grant-in Aid Scheme, were waiting for the letter of regularisation of their services for more than three years. The first batch of teachers had completed their contractual service on June 30, 2018, but had not yet received their letters of regularisation. Reacting to the move, Pargat Singh Garcha, member of core committee, Aided Colleges Contractual Teachers Front, said: “We are happy with the decision of the government but at the same time ask the officials not to reduce approvals every time. The court took a very serious note of the situation of vacant posts in these colleges and directed the government to fill those posts.

Professors waiting for letter of regularisation for more than three years now Lovleen Bains Doraha, December 4 The office of Director Public Instructions (DPI) (Colleges), in a letter issued to principals of all private-aided colleges, has asked the claims of those 127 assistant professors (but for one whose case is pending), who have been appointed under the Grant-in-Aid Scheme and have completed three years of their contractual service, to be submitted by December 15, this year. The Aided Colleges Contractual Teachers Front seemed to have heaved a sigh of relief as far as the regularisation of their services by the govesrnment is concerned. Widespread discontentment was being witnessed among teachers who were suffering owing to delayed tactics of the government and were either frustrated or forced to give up midway. Assistant Professors, appointed under the New Grant-in Aid Scheme, were waiting for the letter of regularisation of their services for more than three years. The first batch of teachers had completed their contractual service on June 30, 2018, but had not yet received their letters of regularisation. “Colleges had sent the required documents within the stipulated time period. The delay was on the part of the government which has now given approval to regularise teachers,” expressed Prof Chamkaur Singh. Reacting to the move, Pargat Singh Garcha, member of core committee, Aided Colleges Contractual Teachers Front, said: “We are happy with the decision of the government but at the same time ask the officials not to reduce approvals every time. Rest of the teachers, who too have completed their three years contract but whose names have still not figured in the list, should also be considered for regularisation as soon as possible.” “We welcome the decision of the government but it has definitely come late. Around 15 to 20 teachers have already left either to settle abroad or join on contract in Himachal or Haryana, where the governments they believe don’t cheat and lie to the teaching community. Even now, the rest of the teachers who have completed three years contract or complete their contractual service in the future, should have their claims immediately sent by the concerned college,” Garcha expressed. Prof Varun Goyal said the government should take such decisions in a timely manner. “Earlier, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The court took a very serious note of the situation of vacant posts in these colleges and directed the government to fill those posts. The Akali-BJP government started the process to fill 1,925 regular teaching posts in the aided colleges of the state in 2015 by appointing teachers on contractual basis rather than regular appointments, and that too on basic pay without any allowances or benefits.”
