Ludhiana, December 6 The Congress MLA from the East Constituency has written to Police Commissioner Rakesh Agrawal seeking immediate police verification of the tenants living in their constituency. “There are hundreds of people living in the streets of the East Constituency and these tenants have not got their police verification done. Some landlords have constructed ‘vehras’ (common place where mainly migrants live) and these places have been rented out to unknown people. Landlords who own these vehras themselves live in other places and they even don’t bother about getting police verification of their tenants done,” MLA Sanjay Talwar states in letter. Talwar further states the police face difficulty in identifying criminals due to the lack of details about their native places. Local residents fear these migrants may commit crime and easily flee to their native place as the police has no record of theirs. “So taking into consideration the safety and security of the people living in the East Constituency, the police must start police verification of such tenants and pass necessary instructions to the police stations,” says the MLA.
