Memes on onion prices fly thick & fast on social media

Social media users have started resorting to satirical humour to raise their voice against the price hike. Amitabh Bachchan is shown saying ‘Mere paas gadi hai, bangla hai, tumhare paas kya hai?’ Shashi Kapoor says ‘mere paas pyaz hai’. One of the latest memes shows a person receiving invitation card and a traditional box which normally contains sweets. Another meme projects use of onions of different sizes as currency of different denomination. An auto rickshaw driver is shown accepting and returning onions of different sizes instead of rupees or coins.

Mahesh Sharma Mandi Ahmedgarh, Dec 6 Social media is abuzz with satires and memes highlighting the ire of the public due to skyrocketing prices of onion, which has brought ‘tears’ in the eyes of costumers. Social media users have started resorting to satirical humour to raise their voice against the price hike. In one of the funniest memes presenting a dialogue between Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor’s classic scene from Deewar movie has been recreated. Amitabh Bachchan is shown saying ‘Mere paas gadi hai, bangla hai, tumhare paas kya hai?’ Shashi Kapoor says ‘mere paas pyaz hai’. One of the latest memes shows a person receiving invitation card and a traditional box which normally contains sweets. However, when he opens the box he is prompted to say, -Kaamaal hai bara paisa kharach kar rahe hain shadi par- as the box is full of onions instead of sweets. In another video clipping, some notorious boys are seen chasing a girl carrying a bag full of onions. While the girl is scared of her modesty being outraged, the chasers prefer to snatch onions from her. Another meme projects use of onions of different sizes as currency of different denomination. An auto rickshaw driver is shown accepting and returning onions of different sizes instead of rupees or coins.
