MLA holds meeting with PPCB MC staff

If any factory is found violating the norms Punjab Pollution Control Board will take required action” he said. The owners of the factories had been asked to take the required steps to stop the pollution before the next meeting scheduled to be held on December 15.

Tribune News Service Ludhiana November 23 With ash emanating from various factories falling in residential areas the Ludhiana (East) MLA Sanjay Talwar conducted a meeting with officials of the Municipal Corporation Punjab Pollution Control Board and representatives of dyeing units at the MCs Zone B office here on Monday. The meeting was also attended by the MCs Zonal Commissioner Swati Tiwana. Talwar said the residents of various colonies had been suffering due to pollution being caused by dyeing and washing units for a long time. He said the inmates and cops at the Ludhiana central jail also suffer due to the pollution. The MLA said they had discussed the matter regarding ash emanating from the dyeing units and washing units and had given instructions to the officials concerned to take the required action against the erring units. “The owners of the factories have been asked to take the required steps to stop the pollution before the next meeting scheduled to be held on December 15. If any factory is found violating the norms Punjab Pollution Control Board will take required action” he said. Residents of various areas on Tajpur Road Main Tibba Road Kakka Dhaula Road Kakowal Road Rahon Road and others in the Ludhiana (East) constituency have been complaining about ash which emanates from chimneys of various factories falling in their houses. Besides trucks of ash collected from factories are also unloaded along roadsides and in vacant plots. The residents complained that they were forced to suffer from health problems due to the pollution being caused by these factories but the authorities concerned had so far failed to take concrete action to provide them any relief. If they hang the washed clothes for drying on roof these turn black due to the falling ash the residents complained. Erring units to face action MLA Sanjay Talwar said they had discussed the matter regarding ash emanating from dyeing units and washing units and had given instructions to the officials concerned to take action against the erring units. The owners of the factories had been asked to take the required steps to stop the pollution before the next meeting scheduled to be held on December 15.
