Misuse of domestic LPG cylinders goes unabated

Still a large number of traders and businessmen are using domestic LPG cylinders in their shops. As per norms, shopkeepers and owners of other commercial establishments have been restricted from using domestic LPG cylinders. Assistant food supply officer, Jagraon, Beant Singh, said, “The department carries out checking at regular intervals to check misuse of domestic LPG. A huge gap between the price of domestic and commercial LPG cylinders is the major reason behind the use of former in commercial establishments. There is a ban on using domestic LPG cylinders in vehicles, but there are several people, who use such cylinders to run their vehicles, just for saving a few bucks.

Our Correspondent Jagraon, July 20 Although the use of domestic liquid petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders for commercial purpose is banned strictly yet the practice is rampant in commercial establishments in the Jagraon area. One can often find domestic LPG cylinders being used for commercial purpose at various places in the town in blatant violation of government rules. As per norms, shopkeepers and owners of other commercial establishments have been restricted from using domestic LPG cylinders. Still a large number of traders and businessmen are using domestic LPG cylinders in their shops. The domestic LPG cylinders are also being used for preparing eatables during marriages and other functions in various palaces in the town. A huge gap between the price of domestic and commercial LPG cylinders is the major reason behind the use of former in commercial establishments. Domestic cylinders come with government subsidy. Due to lack of proper vigil by the authorities concerned domestic LPG cylinders are being openly used by shopkeepers, restaurants owners, roadside vendors, eating joints, tea sellers and other commercial establishments. Moreover, household LPG cylinders are also being used in a number of vehicles. There is a ban on using domestic LPG cylinders in vehicles, but there are several people, who use such cylinders to run their vehicles, just for saving a few bucks. Assistant food supply officer, Jagraon, Beant Singh, said, “The department carries out checking at regular intervals to check misuse of domestic LPG. The use of domestic cylinders for commercial purpose is strictly prohibited. Action will be taken if anybody is found using domestic gas cylinders in commercial places.”
