A night out with Sufi singer on Wednesday

While most folk and movie singers are not known for their educational qualifications, Sartaaj holds an MPhil and Phd in Sufi music. Sartaaj was in news lately as he became first ever turbaned Sikh to walk the Red carpet at Cannes. In the upcoming film “Black Prince”, slated for release tomorrow (July 21), Sartaaj marks his acting debut essaying the role of Maharaj Dupleep Singh. Born in an ordinary farmer’s household in Hoshiapur, he developed his own style and broke the mould of conventional Punjabi singing. Sartaaj was in news lately as he became first ever turbaned Sikh to walk the Red carpet at Cannes. In the upcoming film “Black Prince”, slated for release tomorrow (July 21), Sartaaj marks his acting debut essaying the role of Maharaj Dupleep Singh. Shabana Azmi plays the role of Rani Jindan. Sartaaj’s story is quite inspirational. Born in an ordinary farmer’s household in Hoshiapur, he developed his own style and broke the mould of conventional Punjabi singing.
