Tribune ReportersLudhiana, September 18The Director, Students’ Welfare (DSW), Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organised an essay writing competition with an aim to spread awareness about sanitation and cleanliness under the Swachhta Pakhwada. College principal Paramjit Kaur Gill stressed the importance of cleanliness in life and motivated students to keep the college green and clean. Green College Campus Day was also observed.

Tribune Reporters Ludhiana, September 18 The Director, Students’ Welfare (DSW), Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organised an essay writing competition with an aim to spread awareness about sanitation and cleanliness under the Swachhta Pakhwada. Students from four constituent colleges of the PAU participated in the competition and wrote on the topic “Innovative Ways for Spreading the Message of Hygiene.” The programme was held under the guidance of Dr Ravinder Kaur Dhaliwal, Director, Students’ Welfare, PAU. The College of Home Science, PAU, also observed Swachhta Pakhwada for two weeks under the aegis of the Swachhta Club established by the college. Various activities such asessay writing, slogan writing and poster-making competitions were organized. Green College Campus Day was also observed. On the concluding day, Dr Jatinder Kaur Gulati, Dean, College of Home Science, PAU, gave away prizes to the winners of all three competitions. She also advised the students to contribute towards clean and green campus. Satvir Kaur, liaison officer, Eco-Sikh, delivered a lecture on clean and green environment. She said, “Before cleaning surroundings, we must incorporate cleanliness in our mind and body.” Khalsa College for Women, Sidhwan Kurd, observed cleanliness fortnight from September 1 to 15. The NSS unit of the college organised various activities. Volunteers cleaned the college campus and also went to the nearby villages, urging people to maintain cleanliness at their houses and surrounding areas. Doraha: Guru Nanak National College, Doraha, organised Swachhta Pakhwada as per the instructions of the HRD Ministry. Volunteers of the NSS, NCC, Youth Club and the Press Club of Doraha cleaned the college campus and major part of the town for 15 days. Volunteers began with the cleanliness of the college campus, including lawns, classrooms, corridors etc. Holding brooms in their hands, they seemed to be all charged to conduct this campaign not just in letter but in spirit as well. Hostlers were also asked to clean their rooms and the best rooms were chosen for awards. They extended their campaign to the outers where they cleaned the surroundings, picked up garbage and urged residents to follow the same. The task of cleaning the old and the new grain market, the cleanliness of which is generally overlooked by the council, was undertaken by the volunteers. An essay-writing competition on the topic ‘Clean India’ was organised as part of the celebrations. Wahegurupal Singh stood first while Tanisha Anand and Navneet Kaur stood second. Shivam Kumar stood third. A slogan writing and poster-making competition was also organised. Prof Amandeep Kaur Mangat, Dean, Extension Activities, said, “Students went door-to-door to educate the residents against open dumping, unhealthy environment and callousness on their part to overlook and ignore this sensitive issue.” Jagraon: The Khalsa College for Women, Sidhwan Khurd, near Jagraon, organised Swachhta Pakhwada on the college campus. The event was organised from September 1 to September 15 to create awareness about the importance of cleanliness. College principal Paramjit Kaur Gill stressed the importance of cleanliness in life and motivated students to keep the college green and clean. The students led by NSS volunteers cleaned the college. An essay writing competition was also organised on September 7 on the topic “Innovative Methods to Maintain Cleanliness”. Students cleaned the hostel premises on September 13. Ahmedgarh: Executive Magistrate Badan Din, project convener, said officials and workers at various government and private offices undertook cleanliness drive at their offices. Naib tehsildar KK Mittal, executive officer Kuldeep Singh Bhogal, SHO Baljinder Singh Pannu and Municipal Council president Shiraj Mohammad led their associates during the Shram Dan phase of the event.
