Three common effluent treatment plants to come up in Ludhiana

Tribune News ServiceLudhiana, September 20Three common effluent treatment plants (CETP) will be set up in Ludhiana, said Deputy Commissioner Pardeep Kumar Agarwal here today. For the installation of 15 MLD CETP costing Rs23 crore, the state government has sanctioned the amount and work shall start in October. He said with the installation of these projects, the water pollution in Buddha Nullah would be controlled to a large extent. For other two CETP projects of 40 MLD and 50 MLD on Tajpur Road costing Rs102 crore, the projects have already been sanctioned and work is likely to be completed in the next year, he said. Agarwal said the Punjab Government was making all efforts to complete these projects at the earliest.

The DC said there were about 260 textile dyeing industries in Ludhiana and all these have installed their individual effluent treatment plants, but to monitor the pollution load of the effluent of these industries at a single outlet, there was a proposal to install three CETPs of capacity 50 MLD (million litres per day) 40 MLD and 15 MLD, respectively, for clusters of dyeing industries at Tajpur Road and Rahon Road, Focal Point and Bahadurke Road. These projects are being set up at a cost of Rs135 crore. For the installation of 15 MLD CETP costing Rs23 crore, the state government has sanctioned the amount and work shall start in October. For other two CETP projects of 40 MLD and 50 MLD on Tajpur Road costing Rs102 crore, the projects have already been sanctioned and work is likely to be completed in the next year, he said.
