Farmer suicides: MLAs assure compensation to kin

Later the team reached at village Issru where they met the kin of deceased farmer Sohan Singh Soni. Kuljit Singh Nagra, Nathu Ram, Najar Singh Manshahia and Harinderpal Singh Chandumajra visited village Otallan in Samrala and met the family of deceased farmer Sadhu Singh. After that, the team visited Lehal village in Payal Sub-Division and interacted the family of late farmer Harbans Singh. They told the committee that Sadhu Singh had committed suicide due to Rs 5-lakh debt. The committee members assured the affected families that they would report their grievances to the government for compensation.

Our Correspondent Khanna, September 21 A five-member committee of Punjab MLAs constituted to seek the cases of farmer and labourer suicides visited the affected families at Khanna, Samrala and Payal areas today. The committee was led by Sukhbinder Singh Sukh. Kuljit Singh Nagra, Nathu Ram, Najar Singh Manshahia and Harinderpal Singh Chandumajra visited village Otallan in Samrala and met the family of deceased farmer Sadhu Singh. They told the committee that Sadhu Singh had committed suicide due to Rs 5-lakh debt. Later the team reached at village Issru where they met the kin of deceased farmer Sohan Singh Soni. Sohan Singh had committed suicide due to Rs 8-lakh debt. After that, the team visited Lehal village in Payal Sub-Division and interacted the family of late farmer Harbans Singh. The committee members assured the affected families that they would report their grievances to the government for compensation.
