Ludhiana, September 21 The Anti-Narcotics and Anti-Liquor Cell of the Police Commissionerate have arrested four persons in five separate cases and recovered 104 cartons of illicit liquor from their possession. The Police have registered cases at the Ladowal police station, Division No. 6, and the Jamalpur police station under the Excise Act. In first case the police have arrested Anil Kumar, a resident of Moti Nagar, and recovered 25 cartons of illicit liquor from his Tata Ario vehicle. The accused is owner of a karyana shop. He used to sell liquor at his shop in an illegal manner. In another case the police recovered 28 cartons of illicit liquor from a mini truck. Two persons identified as Dinesh Kumar and Ravi Kumar, both in early twenties, have been arrested in this connection. The accused bought liquor from the Mohali and Kharar area at cheaper rates and sold it to their customers in the city after keeping some margin. In another such incident, the police recovered 23 cartons of liquor from Innova car in the Ladowal area. Owner of the car managed to flee after leaving the vehicle behind. A case was registered against unidentified person in this regard. The police is trying to find out details of the vehicle and its owner. In yet another case, the police recovered 10 cartons of illicit liquor loaded in an auto-rickshaw. The police registered a case against unidentified person in this connection. The driver of the three-wheeler managed to flee. In the fifth case, the police have booked Amit Kumar and recovered 18 cartons of illicit liquor from his Honda City car. Amit was involved in liquor smuggling from the past few months. A case was registered against him at the police station, Division No. 6.: The police claim to have recovered 100 gram heroin from three persons at a naka laid opposite Rajwant Hospital on the GT road yesterday. The accused have been identified as Rajpal Singh and Sunil Kumar of Ludhiana and Jagdish Chand of Himachal Pradesh, presently residing in Jalandhar. As per the information, an Indigo car (PB08-CH-8554), coming from Khanna side tried to return on approaching the naka. ASI Sajjan Singh followed the car and took it in custody. When asked about their whereabouts, the occupants failed to give a satisfactory reply. When searched, 100-gram heroin was recovered from them. A case was registered at the Doraha police station. — OC
