Overflowing sewers bane of Ahmedgarh residents

However, the Safai Mazdoor Union, Ahmedgarh, said that failure of authorities to employ and regularise sewer men was a basic reason behind frequent choking of draining pipes. Residents urged the authorities to take remedial steps to check overflow of sewerage, which led to further problems of inadequate supply of water. Residents of the town alleged that defective layout of the sewerage drains and ignorance of authorities were major reasons behind the persistent overflow of drainage. Rajesh Sharma, a social activist, said due to overflowing breeding of pathogens takes place and it spreads various diseases.

Residents of the town alleged that defective layout of the sewerage drains and ignorance of authorities were major reasons behind the persistent overflow of drainage. They also alleged that erratic supply of electricity in the region during past days has further compounded the problem. Rajesh Sharma, a social activist, said due to overflowing breeding of pathogens takes place and it spreads various diseases. However, the Safai Mazdoor Union, Ahmedgarh, said that failure of authorities to employ and regularise sewer men was a basic reason behind frequent choking of draining pipes. Only one sewer man was deployed for looking after maintenance and upkeep of sewerage system whereas four sweepers were waiting confirmation by the department, said the union’s president Sohan Lal Ghoshi. Residents urged the authorities to take remedial steps to check overflow of sewerage, which led to further problems of inadequate supply of water. President MC Shiraj Mohammad also justified the demands raised by the residents and asked the officials in the civic body to do the needful for adequate deployment of staff for the purpose and strengthening the sewerage system. Perusal of records revealed that the Municipal Council had unanimously resolved to regularise services of four sewer men in a regular meeting held on December 23, 2016.
