Seven fishermen in distress rescued by ICG

ThoothukudiA crew of seven fishermen, who got stranded in midsea on Friday evening, on board a country boat, were rescued by the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) personnel. ICG Ship ‘Aadesh’, that was on a routine patrol was sent for search and rescue operation. The ICG personnel provided medical and other assistance to the crew and all were safe. The rescued were identified as A. Prinso (29), A. Sahayaraj (31), R. Anto (31), V. Thommaiya (40), T. Rabiston (28), T. Pushparaj (49) and T. Prasath (39). The boat was sighted at about 15 nautical miles east off Manapad coast and the fishermen were rescued, S. B. Venkatesh, Deputy Inspector General and Station Commander, Indian Coast Guard, Thoothukudi, said here on Saturday.

An alert from Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre, Chennai at 4.30 p.m, was sent to ICG about a fishing boat bearing registration numbers -TN 12 MO 3490 with seven crew members on board being stranded mid sea due to an engine failure. ICG Ship ‘Aadesh’, that was on a routine patrol was sent for search and rescue operation. The boat was sighted at about 15 nautical miles east off Manapad coast and the fishermen were rescued, S. B. Venkatesh, Deputy Inspector General and Station Commander, Indian Coast Guard, Thoothukudi, said here on Saturday. The ICG personnel provided medical and other assistance to the crew and all were safe. Then the boat was towed to Tiruchendur and handed over to the Fisheries Department officials, Mr. Venkatesh said. The rescued were identified as A. Prinso (29), A. Sahayaraj (31), R. Anto (31), V. Thommaiya (40), T. Rabiston (28), T. Pushparaj (49) and T. Prasath (39).
