2.84 lakh children get vaccine in second phase of Pulse Polio drive

Udhayakumar inaugurated the campaign at a Primary Health Centre in Alanganallur and town panchayat office at Sholavandan. The first phase of the campaign was held on January 28. The district administration stated that 92% of the targeted 3,08,177 children received the vaccination in both rural and urban areas, and 7,412 employees were deployed for the exercise. Staff from the Public Health department, Integrated Child Development Services, revenue and education sectors took part in the campaign. Students, representatives of non-governmental organisations and Rotarians volunteered at 1,705 centres which included eight government hospitals, 25 private hospitals, 214 schools, 1,026 nutrition centres and 15 mobile booths. The vaccine was also administered to children of labourers in brick kilns, houses of tribal people, toll plazas and Sri Lankan refugee camps. “Government hospitals and primary health centres will be open for those who have not yet received their drops. We also plan to complete the process by providing polio drops at the door-to-door level,” said a source from the Urban Primary Health Centre at Palanganatham. Cooperation Minister ‘Sellur’ K. Raju inaugurated the campaign at a Urban Primary Health Centre at Palanganatham on Sunday. Such campaigns were essential for keeping the nation’s health in check, he said. Collector K. Veera Raghava Rao and Corporation Commissioner S. Aneesh Sekhar were present. Revenue Minister R.B. Udhayakumar inaugurated the campaign at a Primary Health Centre in Alanganallur and town panchayat office at Sholavandan.
