Private educational institutions told to pay property tax

Narayanan Nair said the State Government, through a gazette notification, had announced that property tax would be collected for private schools and colleges. Hence, the Corporation, which is embarked upon intensive tax collection to augment its revenue for executing development works, has set in motion the steps for tax fixation for the school and college buildings. “The Corporation has formed teams comprising the Assistant Commissioners, Executive Engineers and Engineers in the Thatchanallur, Palayamkottai, Melapalayam and Tirunelveli Zones to accurately survey the buildings of educational institutions to fix the taxes for the second half of the fiscal 2017 – 2018.
