Mr. Seeman was here on Tuesday to sign the register at the Tallakulam police station as part of his advance bail condition in a criminal case registered against him in the protest against IPL matches in Chennai. The Madras High Court had directed him to stay in Madurai for two weeks. After signing the register, he told reporters that several organisations that believed in democracy were staging protests to highlight the demands of the people. It was the duty of the rulers to find solutions to those demands, he said. “But, those in power did not have faith in democracy and wanted to stifle the democratic voices. The Government had been booking all those protesting against it and arresting them so that the common man should not event think of protests against the government,” he said. On a question about the protests against the eight-lane greenfield corridor between Chennai and Salem, Mr. Seeman said that the government had the ulterior motive of serving the domestic and international corporates. “It has nothing to do with serving the common man. Road infrastructure to Salem is adequate. Salem is not such a prominent city to have eight lanes and there is no need for (people) going faster,” he said. The greenfield road was meant to provide additional transportation facility for Adani group, he said.
