more-in Virudhunagar Virudhunagar district has been ranked 10th in the Delta Ranking among the 108 Aspirational Districts across the country. The ranking done by Niti Ayog pertains to the progress the district has made in the months of March, April and May through 49 indicators in the five identified areas of health and nutrition, education, agriculture, basic infrastructure and financial inclusion. The district has slipped two spots from the initial baseline ranking of 8th to 10th in the delta ranking. “Our district has done extremely well in the fields of health and nutrition and education. However, it could not meet the targets in the fields of skill training and financial inclusion,” Collector A. Sivagnanam said. He said that lack of data on the people to be provided skill-development training was a challenge. "We have not compiled the data and have started working on it through various schemes," he added. Even the private job melas organised by the district evoked good response in participation both by employers and job aspirants. “But, the job aspirants were reluctant to take up the jobs probably for the mismatch of their expectations,” he added. The district administration had planned to provide job-oriented training to college students so that they would become employable, he added. Similarly, efforts are being made to increase the number of jan dhan account holders and also to provide them life insurance policies. “We have set a deadline of August 15 to increase these numbers. Awareness programmes are being held at the special gram sabha meetings,” he added. Coverage of crop insurance would also be improved in the coming days, he added. Delta ranking would be done every month, he added.
