Anti-ragging awareness camp held

THOOTHUKUDIThe District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) conducted an anti-ragging awareness camp at Government Thoothukudi Medical College on Wednesday. Superintendent of Police Murali Rambha, Vice-Principal M. Lucy Nirmal Medona and secretary of DLSA Judge R. Samuel Benjamin were present. Principal District Judge D. Elangovan, who presided over the event, said that students involved in ragging would be charged not only under anti-ragging laws, but also under the Indian Penal Code. Ragging was not a part of Indian culture, but was of western import, he said and advised the students not to indulge in the practice. College Dean R. Ramasubramanian said that the students found guilty of indulging in ragging would not be able to continue their studies, not only at the Thoothukudi college, but anywhere else in the country.
