MADURAIA Police Cyber Club, with the objective of creating awareness among the public of internet security and internet-related frauds, was inaugurated here by Superintendent of Police N. Manivannan on Friday. He added that the club would also try to organise ‘cyber hackathons’ once in three months to give the public a practical exposure to the issues. He expressed hope that the club would help in bringing down the number of cyber crime cases reported in the district. Highlighting that people were increasingly falling prey to internet-related frauds like phishing, Mr. Manivannan said that the Police Cyber Club will organise awareness programmes every month in different places of the district to educate people. He said that the awareness programmes will focus on the different kinds of cyber security threats and frauds and the fundamental things the people must do to safeguard their privacy and to not fall victims to cyber crimes.
