Constable nabs robbers after 10-km chase

The accused were identified as M. Rajkumar (34) of Melur in Madurai district and K. Balamurugan (48) of Palanganatham in Madurai city. DindigulA police constable with a never-say-die attitude chased a speeding motorbike for 10 km and nabbed two robbers at Andarasanpatti near Kannivadi on Saturday. The constable did not give up his attempt and continued to chase them for 10 km. The entire district police was alerted and based on the clues, the constable had attempted to stop them. The constable, Muthusamy, who was on his duty at Moola Chathiram, attempted to intercept the motorbike suspecting that it could have been involved in a robbery at Santhanchettivalasu in the district.

The constable, Muthusamy, who was on his duty at Moola Chathiram, attempted to intercept the motorbike suspecting that it could have been involved in a robbery at Santhanchettivalasu in the district. However, the duo gave him a slip and fled away. The constable did not give up his attempt and continued to chase them for 10 km. At last, he intercepted them at Andarsanpatti and with the help of onlookers he nabbed them. The duo had robbed a five sovereign gold chain from A. Eswari (45) at knife point at around 3.30 p.m. at her residence in Snathanchettivalasu. The entire district police was alerted and based on the clues, the constable had attempted to stop them. The accused were identified as M. Rajkumar (34) of Melur in Madurai district and K. Balamurugan (48) of Palanganatham in Madurai city. The police also recovered the robbed chain in tact. The Superintendent of Police, R. Sakthivel, who was returning to Dindigul from Palani, visited the spot. As a token of appreciation, he gave a cash reward to Muthusamy. Meanwhile, the SP on Sunday inaugurated a network of 28 closed-circuit television cameras at Muthazhagupatti in Dindigul. “This place has been a victim of rowdyism for long. The youth of the area who had suffered due to this decided to put up CCTV as a deterrence to the antisocial activities,” said the SP. The residents have put up a network of 28 CCTVs covering 15 locations at a cost of ?6 lakh. This is one of the biggest private CCTV networks in the district, he added. While the locals have put up a control room to monitor the area through the CCTVs, the same has been linked to the modern control room of the district police to keep a tab on those areas, he added.
