Party State secretary R. Srinivasan said that Vajpayee was a true patriot and an assertive nationalist. “He never compromised on issues of national interest at any point of time,” he added. It was Vajpayee who restored the rights for Indian devotees to take out Kailash yatra and offer worship. “Though he was instrumental in introducing Samjhautha Express to Lahore, he gave a befitting reply to Pakistan during its misadventure in Kargil,” Mr. Srinivasan said. The former Prime Minister would be remembered for having the political will to make the second nuclear tests at Pokhran. “Despite the economic sanctions imposed on India by the US, he managed to overcome the sanctions by floating Resurgent India Bonds by mobilising huge funds,”Mr. Srinivasan said.Stating that Vajpayee had the personality bigger than the post of Prime Minister, Mr. Srinivasan said that he successfully ran a government with a coalition of 18 parties. “Vajpayee will be remembered for the four-lane highway.” Every person enjoying the comfortable road journey on the four-lane highway in the country will gratefully remember, the former Prime Minister, according to Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industries. Its senior president S. Rethinavelu said that his demise was a great loss to the country and its void could not be easily filled up. He was a great pan-India visionary, he said. The Sourashtra Chamber of Commerce hailed the former Prime Minister as a leader who dedicated his life for the welfare and development of the nation. He upheld ‘political dharma’ and formulated many schemes for the welfare of people. Particularly, the four-lane highway project was beneficial to all sections of people, said T. R. Mohanram, general secretary of the chamber.
