Aneesh Shekar said that the goods would reach the flood-hit region in the neighbouring State by Saturday. With the voluntary contribution from the public and trade bodies, the Corporation had mobilised 43 items, including bedsheets, water bottles, medicines, instant chappatis, biscuits, soaps, napkins, dress for kids, rice, dhal, umbrellas, candles, matchbox, chocolates, lungis and saris. The goods were loaded in two trucks and despatched from the Anna Maligai under the supervision of senior officials. According to officials, the vehicles would reach the flood control room, set up by the Kerala government, from where it would be re-distributed to various relief centres. The Corporation of Madurai had earlier sent about 10 tons of bleaching powder in 400 bags to the flood-hit Kerala, the officials said. Meanwhile, a number of voluntary groups also actively posted on social media appealing to the people to contribute for the noble cause and help those stuck in the floods.
