MKU sends out three temporary staff

Questions were raised about the need for additional staff since the college already had more than 20 non-teaching staff, more than half the number of the teaching staff in the college. MADURAIThree temporary non-teaching staff at Madurai Kamaraj University’s Constituent College in Tirumangalam, whose appointments were questioned for alleged irregularities, have now been asked to leave by the university administration. Though the appointment of two more temporary staff was also questioned, the official said that they did not find any evidence to prove that the two worked at the college. A senior official from MKU, involved in the enquiry, however, denied that the staff were asked to leave due to irregularities in their appointments. The action was taken after an enquiry initiated by the Convenor’s Committee (CC) of MKU following reports in the media earlier this week highlighting the issues in their appointment.

more-in MADURAI Three temporary non-teaching staff at Madurai Kamaraj University’s Constituent College in Tirumangalam, whose appointments were questioned for alleged irregularities, have now been asked to leave by the university administration. The action was taken after an enquiry initiated by the Convenor’s Committee (CC) of MKU following reports in the media earlier this week highlighting the issues in their appointment. A clerk, attendant and a marker (an assistant to the Physical Director) joined the college in the last week of August. Questions were raised about the need for additional staff since the college already had more than 20 non-teaching staff, more than half the number of the teaching staff in the college. With the college not having a playground, the appointment of a marker was also specifically criticised as being irrational. A senior official from MKU, involved in the enquiry, however, denied that the staff were asked to leave due to irregularities in their appointments. “The problem was that they failed to join duty on time,” he said. According to him, the appointment order of the three persons was signed on June 1, 2018 by top officials of the university, including the then Vice-Chancellor P.P. Chellathurai, whose appointment was set aside later that month by the Madras High Court. “However, they joined the college after a gap of nearly three months in the last week of August without proper justification. The Principal must not have allowed them to join. Hence, the CC decided to send them out,” he added. Though the appointment of two more temporary staff was also questioned, the official said that they did not find any evidence to prove that the two worked at the college. “The attendance register did not have their names,” he said.
