Consequently, electricity generation was stopped on August 2 for pinpointing the faulty part and subsequent maintenance work that was required. Power generation in the second reactor of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP), which was under maintenance since August 2, resumed at 6.42 p.m. on Thursday. After the KKNPP’s first reactor was shut down on August 1 for the scheduled third annual fuel outage, some “abnormal sounds” were noticed in the generation section of the second reactor the next day. “The second reactor is now [at 6.20 p.m. on Friday] generating 780 MWe power and will reach its maximum capacity of 1,000 MWe soon,” sources in the KKNPP said.
