Consumer forum asks post office to pay compensation

The postman who was to deliver the post asked the complainant to collect it from the post office. The complainant sought compensation from the post office for deliberately delaying the delivery of the money order. The money order was cleared only after a formal complaint was sent to the Senior Superintendent of Post Office, Madurai. MaduraiThe Madurai District Consumer Forum has directed the Pasumalai Post Office to pay ?20,000 as compensation to a complainant for failing to deliver a money order in time thereby amounting to deficiency in service. However, when the complainant and her daughter visited the post office to collect the money order, they were asked to come back another day.

The forum comprising president V. Balasundarakumar and members C. Packialakshmi and M. Maraikamalai also imposed cost of ? 6,000 on the post office to be paid to the complainant. The complainant Beth Sarah Jacob of Madurai claimed that her mother had sent her a money order of ?1000 as Christmas gift in 2004. The postman who was to deliver the post asked the complainant to collect it from the post office. However, when the complainant and her daughter visited the post office to collect the money order, they were asked to come back another day. The complainant’s husband David Jacob Pandian wrote a complaint in the complaints book after they were turned down yet again by the post office and asked to come back another day. The money order was cleared only after a formal complaint was sent to the Senior Superintendent of Post Office, Madurai. The complainant sought compensation from the post office for deliberately delaying the delivery of the money order.
