Bail pleas in Raja case adjourned

The Madras High Court taking cognisance of the issue initiated suo motu contempt proceedings against H.Raja. Justice G.K. Ilanthiraiyan adjourned the case after the State sought time to file affidavit in the case. The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Thursday adjourned the anticipatory bail pleas of five persons from Meyyapuram, where BJP national secretary H. Raja was booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code for confronting a police officer and bad mouthing the Madras High Court during a Vinayagar Chathurthi procession. The Pudukottai police had booked BJP national secretary H. Raja under various Sections of the IPC, including unlawful assembly, disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant, promoting enmity between different groups, public nuisance and criminal intimidation following the incident. They had nothing to do with the incident, they said.

The Madras High Court taking cognisance of the issue initiated suo motu contempt proceedings against H.Raja. M. Vaithilingam, G. Chockalingam, P. Perumal, C. Radhakrishnan and M. Rathinam from Meyyapuram apprehended arrest after they claimed that police had booked a case against Mr. Raja and ‘others.’ They claimed that they were from the same village and were only part of the procession. They had nothing to do with the incident, they said.
