Bull saved as 38 kg of plastic removed from stomach

Immediately, the animal was subjected to a surgery and the doctors successfully removed the plastic weighing 38 kg. Not only the environment was in danger, but even animals which ate the food along with the plastic, they cautioned. “If left unattended for another 48 hours, the bull could not have been saved,” the doctors said.

Following a complaint from the bull’s owner that it was feeling uneasy for some time and had not taken food properly, a team of doctors diagnosed the animal and was shocked over the scan reports. The big bulge showed it carried plastic. Immediately, the animal was subjected to a surgery and the doctors successfully removed the plastic weighing 38 kg. According to Suresh, who headed the team, the doctors included Balamurugan, Thangapandian, John Suresh and others. The bull was owned by Alagumani, a farmer in Chittalangudi near Vadipatti. As the bull was uneasy, he had brought it to the C. Pudur veterinary hospital. An unusual swelling led to the suspicion that the animal could have consumed some object. However, the doctors were shocked to see a big bag-like object which was plastic. The animal, which may have eaten leftover food thrown in polythene bags, and suffered all along. “If left unattended for another 48 hours, the bull could not have been saved,” the doctors said. The animal was fast recovering and it should be fine by Sunday, the farmer was informed by the doctors. Meanwhile, the doctors appealed to the people not to throw leftovers in plastic bags as the animals had the tendency to eat them in a hurry and chewed the items along with the plastics. Not only the environment was in danger, but even animals which ate the food along with the plastic, they cautioned.
