NagercoilAround 235 persons, including 132 women, belonging to the Ayyappa Seva Samithi, were arrested for staging a demonstration in front of the Collectorate against the recent Supreme Court verdict allowing entry to all women into the temple. The protesting women claimed that most women devotees did not accept the verdict. The protest was led by town secretary of the BJP Nagarajan. The order would bring a cultural degeneration to the holy pilgrimage, they said, demanding that the earlier custom of not allowing females between ages 10 to 50 be restored.
