more-in A vegetable market, which was functioning on a private property belonging to a Muslim welfare society, was sealed by revenue authorities here on Wednesday. In an early morning operation, the officials, along with a posse of police personnel, closed down the market situated on Subramaniapuram Road here . For several years, people from about 50 villages and small hamlets had been using the vegetable market. Though the municipality opened a market on the outskirts 20 years back, not many farmers and buyers visited it as it was away from the town. Armed with a High Court order that stated that the decision of the municipal authorities would be final in operating a market and its location, officials sealed the vegetable market. Sub-Collector Arun Raj, Dindigul ADSP Subashini, Palani Municipal Commissioner Narayanan, Tahsildar Saravanan were assisted by police personnel in the exercise. Farmers, who regularly visited the market on the Muslim Welfare Society land, said it was near and convenient. The market operated by the municipality lacked infrastructure. However, the officials said there was space and all facilities would be provided, based on requirement of the users.
