The district administration has ordered the closure of the newly-laid Danushkodi - Arichalmunai road for tourists and pilgrims following weather warnings. After the district administration displayed a hoarding, warning that the sea would become very rough from October 6 to 9, the police stopped all the vehicles on Pudhu Road near Danushkodi police station. Though the Meteorological department has withdrawn the ‘red alert’ issued for Sunday, the road would remain shut for three days as the area would witness heavy rains, officials said. The district administration has also asked fishermen not to venture into the sea for fishing and shift their boats to safer places. The district administration, citing a report from the National Centre for Ocean Information Services, said sea in Danushkodi area would become very rough for three days from Saturday and advised tourists and pilgrims not to travel beyond Pudhu Road.
