By making devotee-friendly arrangements at four important points — Melanaththam, Kurukkuthurai, Manimurtheeswaram and Peratchiamman Temple bathing ghats — all situated along the Tamirabharani watercourse under the urban civic body’s jurisdiction in view of the Maha Pushkaram, the Corporation has won the hearts of the visitors. Considering the huge influx of devotees, the Corporation has kept synthetic drinking water tanks, temporary dressing rooms for women, medical camps, netted enclosures to discard wet clothes, garbage bins, mobile toilets, cleaning lorry with suction pump at these spots and deployed 50 sanitary workers per shift to ensure cleanliness along the water course. Besides keeping two drinking water tanks at Melanaththam bathing ghat, the Corporation has kept ready mobile toilets and stationed a cleaning lorry at this spot. “Once the septic tank of the mobile toilets gets filled, it will be emptied by a suction pump of the cleaning lorry and safely disposed of without polluting the environment. Considering the arrival of huge number of devotees, mobile toilets with cleaning lorries have been stationed at all these spots,” said V. Narayanan Nair, Commissioner (in-charge). While two synthetic drinking water tanks have been kept at Melanaththam, five drinking water tanks have been installed near Kurukkuthurai, Manimurtheeswaram and Peratchiamman Temple bathing ghats. The dressing rooms erected at these places are major relief for the women devotees from various places. The Corporation has erected enclosures with nets in all these spots to dispose the wet clothes of the devotees. “Since the devotees, after taking the holy dip, would discard their clothes, we’ve kept these netted enclosures near the river. The discarded wet clothes are being removed periodically,” Dr. Nair said. Medical teams comprising a physician, nurses and para-medical staff have been posted in the medical camps all the five points. “Bleaching powder, lime powder, phenyl etc. are being sprinkled at regular intervals. Moreover, the officials concerned have been instructed to maintain the toilets in the bus-stands in the best possible manner,” Dr. Nair said.
