Governor participates in ‘Clean India’ exercise

THOOTHUKUDIGovernor Banwarilal Purohit, during his brief stay in the coastal town, reviewed the implementation of ‘Clean India’ movement and the development projects being executed in the district with the Centre’s funding. Addressing the students, he urged them to help their parents in keeping their homes clean. He also asked the teachers there about the training and exercises they are imparting to the special children.

The Governor, who reached here around 7 a.m. by road from Tirunelveli, visited the Corporation Middle School at Sivanthaakulam shortly after 10 a.m. and spent a few minutes with the mentally retarded children in a centre on the same premises after giving them fruits and flowers. He also asked the teachers there about the training and exercises they are imparting to the special children. Even as the officials were about to take the Governor to the hall where a small function was to be conducted, he went to the kitchen where the noon meal was being prepared. “Please ensure utmost cleanliness in the kitchen and serve nutritious food to the children,” Mr. Banwarilal told the workers there. Addressing the students, he urged them to help their parents in keeping their homes clean. He also administered anti-plastic awareness pledge to the students and flagged off the Corporation’s 18 cleaning vehicles. After inspecting the old bus stand and participating in the cleanliness awareness drive by collecting the garbage, Mr. Banwarilal inspected the primary health centre at Fatima Nagar. On returning to the Circuit House, the Governor met the heads of various government departments and discussed with them the progress of the projects being implemented with Central assistance. When he received petitions from the public and the representatives of various organisations, the workers of Sterlite Copper that remained closed since last week of May following the protest submitted a petition seeking the re-opening of their factory. Similar petitions were submitted by the contractors, contract labourers and the villagers from eight hamlets situated around Sterlite Copper before he left for Chennai by flight in the evening.
